Sarcastic answer: why would they want to play long term in NJ they wouldnt sign anyways. Zajac is best friends with players a all the way to z, so he will want to go to team x

Realistic: I would want them both signed, Zajac has proven his worth and top line centers are not easy to find or develop, and Clarkson im a huge fan of, he can apparently score, but also stands up for his team mates and plays gritty. plus who knows what else he's learned from Kovy this summer or at practices with him (seems to kind of look upto him?). Sign them both

Id have to agree...

"IF" for any reason Zajac stalls on the possibility of resigning, it means he is following Zack to Minny!

Clarkson is like a Darcy Tucker kind of player. They dont grow on trees and are intangible to any team.

I think Lou looks at that as a predictable move since we lost Zach. Neither will be signed and both will be playing in minny next year.

Right now, I'm wondering how Lou is modelling this team. I know he wants to remain competitive and he hasn't really hit any panic button, but is he building for this season or for the future?

So many questions. If he's building for the future, he should trade them for prospects now before they make like Usain and bolt.

He's left Elias and Brodeur go to free agency before and has somehow retained them. I mean maybe he's just really confident in his own ability to GM the team, even though he just let one of the best players they have go.

Have no idea if it would benefit to sign em before the new cba is in place. But they definitely should start negotiating and not wait till the end of the season. We can not lose another asset for nothing.

Did PK Subban sign yet? I would love to see him on the Devils, then put together a package with one or 2 of our dmen for a top 6 forward

I don't think we have the resources to give up to sign an RFA of that caliber.

If we were to offer sheet him, we probably don't have the necessary picks, and we would lose out on our next two first round picks. Otherwise, we have to trade for him, and that would pretty much guarantee one, if not, two of our defensemen going the other way.

Better question.

As Devils fans, what do we think Zajac and Clarkson should make?

Zajac will obviously earn more than his current cap hit, 3,887,500 (his actual salary is 4.8 million for next year). Clarkson has a cap hit of 2.66 but a salary, for next season, of 3 million. My guess would be a six year 30-33, AAV of 5-5.5 deal for Zajac. For Clarkson, it would be a deal very similar to what he has now.

Something he should have done for Parise. Doubtful he would do it for these two. Not sure we can afford to lose Zajac.

Depends on how Clarkson does this upcoming year. A raise is pretty much given if he tops 20 goals though. I could easily see him getting $3.5 million on the open market.
